Job: Laboratory Technician -- Physics
The Petroleum Institute
Advanced University Placement (AUP) Physics Program

The [b]Petroleum Institute[/b] is seeking a [b]Physics Laboratory Technician[/b] to support teachers working in its Advanced University Placement program beginning in the Fall 2010 semester.

[b]Position Description:[/b] The main role of the technician is the preparation of materials to be used by students in the teaching laboratory, and assist in the instruction of the students in the proper and safe use of the laboratory equipment. The technician will also assist in the ordering of supplies, maintaining laboratory equipment and carrying out simple repairs.

[b]Qualifications:[/b] Applicants should have: good writing and communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team and the ability to carry out administrative, management and instruction tasks associated with a teaching laboratory. Practical knowledge of computers and standard software packages (Word, Excel and Access) is important. As the language of instruction at the Petroleum Institute is English, the Laboratory Technician must be proficient in both spoken and written English. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage, but is not required.

The successful candidate should have a Bachelors level degree in Physics. Foreign applicants who are currently working in the UAE must be in possession of a transferable visa.

[b]Salary/Benefits:[/b] The total compensation package includes a tax-free 12-month base salary, and a benefits allowance that covers relocation, housing, initial furnishings, utilities; transportation (automobile purchase loan), health insurance, end-of-service benefit and annual leave travel. Applicants must be in excellent health and will be required to pass a pre-employment physical examination.
