The Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences is a research intensive Faculty with extensive teaching operations in Australia, Asia and the Middle East. The National Institute for Applied Statistics Research Australia (NIASRA) is committed to developing and applying innovative statistical methods to important problems. It undertakes a range of fundamental and contract research, major consulting projects, and professional education in statistical methodology.

The Centre for Bioinformatics and Biometrics (CBB) within NIASRA is seeking to appoint a motivated applied Statistical Computing Scientist to develop and document high performance linear algebra routines and supporting data structures to solve large systems of equations as the core of a statistical system to fit the linear mixed model to large data sets arising in the biological sciences as part of an industry funded project.

As a key member of the project team you will have the opportunity to undertake research and develop (from symbolic formulations or original research) or adapt (existing) linear algebra routines that support the efficient solution of large, potentially singular, dense or sparse systems of equations; including hardware and software opportunities for parallel processing.
