About the opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists at for a highly motivated senior academic to be in involve managing a CRISPR Genome editing initiative within the Charles Perkins Centre at the University of Sydney. The University of Sydney has expertise in using new CRISPR technologies for research, and the role of this position is to help empower all researchers across all campuses to perform genome editing. Efforts will focus on providing technical expertise to edit human and mouse cells and stem cells, with a focus on whole genome pooled screening, however other activities will include helping to design strategies to perform genome editing on model organisms and non‐conventional or species of biological of medical interest or agricultural importance.

The Genome editing specialist works under broad direction and actively contributes to the development,
optimisation, implementation, and teaching of genome editing technologies to the University of Sydney
Campus. The Genome editing specialist will manage the day‐ to‐day operational needs of the genome
editing laboratory within the CPC, developing and implementing operational plans for the effective and
efficient use of genome editing technology. They will resolve complex matters that arise across the
laboratory facilities, typically drawing on their extensive scientific/research and technical experience and
ensuring that the overarching research, teaching and clinical requirements of the work area are met
effectively. This role will manage staff, therefore responsible for any associated HR needs (such as PM&D, probation, leave approvals, resourcing, etc.)

We are looking for a Genome Editing Specialist with:

  • PhD or equivalent, in molecular biology or appropriate discipline with subsequent relevant experience in related field, sound technical knowledge of scientific and safety procedures and/or equivalent combination of relevant training and experience.
  • Extensive experience with advanced molecular biology and cell culture
  • Experience generating mutations and validation using sequencing or other appropriate techniques
  • Experience with developing research projects, experimental design and preparing ethics submissions and grant applications.
