The Max Planck Institute for Chemical Energy Conversion in Mülheim an der Ruhr has been re-established in 2012 and the field of research has been aligned with the conversion of energy. Our scientists are engaged in basic processes that are essential within the storage and conversion of energy.

The department of "Inorganic Spectroscopy" is presently looking for candidate for a
PhD position (f/m)
with a master’s degree in Chemistry or Physics.

The position is available in the Spectroelectrochemistry group. The successful candidate will work in the field of in-situ/operando spectroelectrochemistry and will be supervised by Prof. Dr. Serena DeBeer and Dr. Olaf Rüdiger.

The position is available immediately. The doctoral researcher will work on a 3-year-doctoral-program, remunerated according to the labor agreement for public service (TVöD), E13.

Job Description: The work will be experimental with the aim to study electrocatalytic molecular systems in-situ or under operando conditions using different spectroscopic techniques (X-ray, EPR, FTIR …), both in-house as well as synchrotron based. The doctoral researcher should be prepared to work in a highly collaborative environment. The working language is English. The doctoral researcher will receive substantial financial support as well as high-grade scientific courses (see IMPRS research school). Highly motivated researchers of any nationality with an excellent scientific background and with a deep commitment to fundamental research are welcome to apply.

Qualifications: Applicants should hold a Master’s or equivalent degree in Chemistry or Physics at the point of enrollment, preferentially with some experience in electrochemistry and/or spectroscopy in the field of electrocatalysis.

Application: The Max Planck Society explicitly encourages women to apply. Furthermore, the Max Planck Society wishes to increase the number of individuals with disabilities in its workforce and therefore encourages applications from such qualified individuals.

Please send your application in digital form to the contact stated below. Please state the reference code "OR001" in your application. Application documents must include a cover letter with description of past experience, curriculum vitae with the contact details of at least one referee and a copy of your degree certificate.
