This position will assist research groups associated with the CNAP Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE, http://www.k-state.edu/cnap/) with effectively utilizing high performance computing and scientific applications support/development. Responsibilities will be split approximately 50/50 between these two areas. The Application Developer is responsible for the collaborative support of targeted sciences research projects, with an emphasis on applications in psychology and/or life sciences. The nature of the collaboration will include development of data-sharing platforms, web-based data portals, parallel simulation, modeling or data analysis algorithms, assistance with implementation and optimization of parallel applications, performance analysis, and participation in the development of papers and reports.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Requires a bachelor’s degree and two years of relevant experience. This position may use an educational equivalency as determined relevant by a hiring manager.
B.S. degree in applied Mathematics, Engineering, or sciences discipline. Preference to applicants with a strong background in engineering sciences and inter-disciplinary research. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience with scientific applications and modeling research group support with a strong computational component; knowledge of or experience with advanced computational applications in engineering and/or life sciences research; significant use of HPC resources including shell scripting; scientific workflow bottleneck analysis; broad knowledge of parallel and distributed systems and computing techniques.
Grant and research writing experience; research data archive and management experience; HADOOP/"Big Data" experience; Web Services implementation experience; HPC user education/teaching experience.
