The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kentucky (UK) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the field of Observational Astronomy to begin August 2018. Current astrophysics research at UK includes studies of the interstellar medium, stellar astrophysics, galactic dynamics, galaxy formation and evolution, and supermassive black holes. The University of Kentucky is an Associate Member of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey IV and a member of the LSST Corporation.

All candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in Physics, Astronomy, or a related field, awarded no later than August 2018. Candidates should have an established research record and a vigorous and sustainable research plan that has the potential to attract external funding. We encourage candidates with research programs that can take advantage of current and future NASA facilities and/or radio/submm telescopes. The successful candidate will also be expected to be an effective teacher in the undergraduate and graduate instructional programs of the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

In order to be considered for the position, you will need to complete the following two steps:
1. Initiate your application by submitting an application through the University of Kentucky employment system
2. Submit your application materials to https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/10257, including: 1) CV, 2) list of publications, 3) research plan, and 4) statement of teaching experience and interests.

Applicants will also need to arrange for three confidential letters of recommendation to be submitted through this site.

Review of applications will begin on 1 December 2017. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Inquiries may be directed to Prof. Gary Ferland, Chair of the Search Committee at gary.j.ferland@uky.edu.
