FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Under the direction of the Dean of the division of Health and Safety, provide course instruction to students utilizing multiple teaching formats. Primary teaching focus is fire science.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.) Minimum of 12 contract hours of teaching responsibilities per semester.
2.) Provide a minimum of 5 hours devoted to office hours for the purpose of student advising and support.
3.) Active participation in program and accreditation activities. (Including but not limited to course and program assessment and development)
3.) Participation in professional and scholarly activities, including but not limited to research and dissemination of knowledge through publication, community, or faculty presentations.
4.) Recruitment and retention of students.
5.) University/community service.
Masters Degree in related field with equivalent level course work specific to fire science/emergency services
Evidence of experience in providing effective teaching at the undergraduate level.
Ability to teach broad range of fire service course
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated evidence of ability to teach from multiple formats including online, blended, and face-to-face
Willing and able to travel to distant regional campuses
Ph.D. in related field w/equiv.-level course work specific to emergency services
Five or more years firefighting experience
Two or more years experience teaching in a community college, university, or training center
Ability to teach both fire and EMT courses.
Two or more years supervisory experience
Ability to offer online programming
Ability to earn Michigan Firefighter Training Council Instructor
Hazwoper, Haz Mat, or Emergency Medical Technician certification
