Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with structural biology in Dr. Vitor H. Pomin’s laboratory in the Department of BioMolecular Sciences,

University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. The position will give opportunities to the researcher to improve skills in methods of isolation sulfated glycans from natural sources and fractionation of their derivatives, as well as protein expression and labeling with magnetically active isotopes.

The postdoctoral research associate will work with the most cutting-edge techniques of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) spectroscopy used to investigate protein-carbohydrate complexes, especially sulfated glycans such as glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and those of marine origin. The post doc will perform NMR experiments like transferred Nuclear Overhauser Effect (trNOE), Saturation Transfer Difference (STD) and Chemical Shift Pertubation (CSP) experiments to probe the molecular basis for these interactions. The post doc will be involved with methods to produce isotopically enriched as well as paramagnetically tagged sulfated glycan-derived oligosaccharides and novel approaches used to examine lysine and arginine side chains to identify the binding sites in sulfated glycan-binding proteins such as thrombin.

Must have a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline by the time of the appointment.

Applications must be submitted through the University of Mississippi’s employment site at https://jobs.olemiss.edu. Applicants should attach their letter of interest, updated CV and three reference letters. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until an adequate applicant pool has been established.
