California State University Northridge invites applications for three tenure-track positions in Materials Science and Engineering. The appointments are expected to be at the level of Assistant Professor and to begin in the Fall semester of 2017. The potential home departments for the positions are Chemistry and Biochemistry, Physics and Astronomy, and Manufacturing Systems Engineering & Management. The three hires will be part of a Materials Science and Engineering cluster that the University has recently identified for strategic growth. The example areas of interest include, but are not limited to materials characterization, fabrication, synthesis and processing; computational materials science; active, electronic and spintronic materials; and materials for additive manufacturing.
Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree in Materials Science and Engineering or related fields, and a clear record of research accomplishments. In addition to research, candidates should have an interest and ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Materials Science and Engineering, and demonstrate a commitment to working with an ethnically and culturally diverse student population. We seek candidates who can establish and maintain vigorous and externally funded research programs. It is anticipated that the University will provide start-up funds and release time from teaching during the first three years of appointment. Additional release time from teaching is available to faculty members who carry out research with significant external support. The campus is located in a suburb of Los Angeles, in close proximity to other universities and major research centers.
