Assistant or Associate Professor of Bioanalytical Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry at the University of Kansas is seeking exceptional candidates for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position in bioanalytical chemistry, expected to begin in Fall of 2019.
The successful candidate is expected to demonstrate excellence in research, teaching, and service and will contribute to the Department’s expertise in bioanalytical chemistry. The successful candidate will be a member of the Ralph N. Adams Institute for Bioanalytical Chemistry, an interdisciplinary consortium of researchers at KU in chemistry, engineering, molecular biosciences, neuroscience, and pharmacy participating in biomedical and bioanalytical research. The individual will also be a member of the Center for Molecular Analysis of Disease Pathways, an NIH-funded Center for Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) at KU. The Center brings together junior and senior faculty from the physical, biological, and pharmaceutical sciences at KU and other academic institutions in Kansas to conduct multidisciplinary research to develop and implement cutting-edge technologies for elucidating the genetic, chemical, and physical mechanisms of biological processes involved in disease.
The candidate should have a strong record of research with an emphasis on biomedical applications and a commitment to graduate and undergraduate education in chemistry. A competitive salary will be offered that is commensurate with experience. A Ph.D. in chemistry or closely related field is expected by the start date of appointment and postdoctoral experience is desirable. The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start of the position.
Participate actively in undergraduate and graduate instruction in chemistry.
Participate in advising both undergraduate and graduate students.
Participate in advising and evaluations of graduate students at the Ph.D. and M.S. levels, including directing doctoral dissertations.
Hold regular office hours.
Develop and maintain an active, well-funded research program in bioanalytical chemistry or related field.
Publish research findings in appropriate scholarly outlets.
Present papers at professional conferences.
Participate in the regular academic activities of the Department of Chemistry, including committee assignments, oral exams, seminars, and student advising.
Provide general service to the Department, College, the University, and the discipline.
Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through: (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application; (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in CV; (3) research statement (2-5 pages); (4) graduate and post-graduate coursework; (5) publications and conference presentations in the field; (6) statement of teaching philosophy, experience in making scientific presentations in chemistry and/or previous teaching experience; and (7) information provided from professional references.
Ph.D. in chemistry or closely related field.
Demonstrable research qualifications in the field of bioanalytical chemistry or biomedical analysis.
Well-defined plans for development of a vigorous research program of national and international repute in bioanalytical chemistry or a closely allied area.
Evidence of ability to teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels in analytical chemistry or related fields.
Ability to relate and communicate effectively with graduate students in the context of the research program initiated by the candidate.
