The Department of Biology at Tufts University is seeking a part-time non-tenure track instructor to teach a seminar that focuses on the role of ecology and technology in the creation of more sustainable agricultural systems in contrasting global contexts. The course, Bio 185: Food for All: Ecology, Technology, and Sustainability, meets 1:20 - 4:20 Monday afternoons during the Fall 2025 semester (Sept - Dec). The course should explore ecological knowledge that promotes sustainable food production, existing and emerging technologies, and political/economic drivers that control access to new technologies. It should also present skills in persuasive communication between contrasting positions of stakeholders ranging from industry and growers to advocacy groups. Recommended preparation: Introductory Biology or Intro Chemistry or equivalent.  Enrollment is usually around 16 students.

 

Qualifications

The preferred candidate should have attained an advanced degree in an area related to the biology of agriculture. Ideal candidates should demonstrate experience in teaching about plants and animals at the college level. We require experience or invested interest in developing inclusive classroom spaces through equitable mentoring and innovative evidence-based pedagogy that promotes success and career enhancement of underrepresented students in STEM.
