The Department of Physics at Auburn University invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Research Professor position in the field of comet spectroscopy, with a particular emphasis on atomic and molecular modeling. We seek a highly qualified individual to develop and lead an active research program focused on the spectroscopic analysis of comets using a variety of observational platforms, including the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) and the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a robust research program in comet spectroscopy, focusing on the atomic and molecular processes that shape cometary emissions.
- Lead observational campaigns and analyze spectroscopic data from high-profile space-based observatories such as HST and JWST.
- Use advanced atomic and molecular modeling techniques to interpret spectral data and improve our understanding of cometary compositions and physical processes.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including astronomers, planetary scientists, and modelers, both within Auburn University and the broader scientific community.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students in research and support their development in the field.
This is a non-tenure track position. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The successful candidate will be expected to secure external funding to support their research program and participate in collaborative research initiatives. This position is for one year and is renewable based on need, funding, and performance. Review of applications will begin October 16th, 2024, and will continue until the position is filled.
