The Department of Microbiology at the University of Iowa invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in bacteriology: one at the Assistant Professor level, and one at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Each of these tenure-track positions includes a 12-month salary, benefits, competitive start-up package, and modern laboratory facilities. All applicants must have a Ph.D., M.D., or D.V.M.; postdoctoral research experience; and a strong record of research accomplishments. Successful applicants are expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program. All applicants will be expected to participate in departmental teaching activities. Applicants at the Associate Professor level should already have an established and funded research program and be able to show evidence of the ability to teach at graduate and undergraduate levels. Although all areas of bacteriology will be considered, we are particularly interested in individuals using cutting-edge approaches to study medically relevant bacterial pathogens with an emphasis on host-pathogen interactions, virulence mechanisms, antimicrobial resistance, and the microbiome.

The Department of Microbiology consists of 27 primary and secondary faculty members with strengths in molecular mechanisms of bacterial and viral physiology and pathogenesis, host responses to medically-important pathogens, and cellular biology. In addition, all candidates should have at least three letters of recommendation sent to Search Committee #69962 at microbiology-hr@uiowa.edu.

Review of applicants will begin immediately and will continue until the positions are filled. Anticipated start dates are flexible.
