Environmental Studies Program

Position Overview

The Environmental Studies Program seeks qualified individuals to instruct courses, with backgrounds in environmental science / policy, as well as teaching experience. Lecturers will be selected and hired as needed from this pool for part-time and/or full-time, temporary and/or regular teaching positions in a variety of environmental courses and seminars. These are non-tenure-track members of the faculty whose primary role is instructional. Successful applicants must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. prior to starting employment.

Job Description

100% – Teaching EVRN undergraduate and/or graduate courses as assigned.
Prepare for and attend all class meetings. In case of absence, the lecturer must make arrangements for a substitute to teach class. Classes should not be canceled.
Provide instruction throughout the semester, usually 3 hours/week, one day a week.
Develop assignments, administer tests, evaluate student work, provide feedback to students, and assign grades.
Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught.
Adhere to departmental, College, and university policies.

Required Qualifications

Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from professional references:

Master’s or Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy, or other related fields. If teaching a graduate level course (500 or higher), the applicant will need a Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy or other related fields.
Previous teaching experience at the College level.
Demonstrated effective written communication as evidenced by past teaching, related assignments and/or application materials.
Experience working with persons from diverse backgrounds in a variety of situations as evidenced by work history.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Policy, or related field.
At least three years’ previous teaching experience at a university level.
