FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
Under the direction of the Dean of the division of Health and Safety, provide course instruction to
students utilizing multiple teaching formats.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.) Minimum of 12 contract hours of teaching responsibilities per semester.
2.) Provide a minimum of 5 hours devoted to office hours for the purpose of student advising and support.
3.) Participation in professional, including but not limited dissemination of knowledge through, community,
or faculty presentations.
4.) Recruitment of students.
5.) Course and program assessment.
6.) University/community service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in related field with equivalent level course work specific to fire services. Evidence of experience in providing effective teaching at the undergraduate level. Ability to earn Michigan Firefighter Training council Instructor within 3 months of hire. Ability to teach broad range of fire service course
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated evidence of ability to teach from multiple formats including online, blended, and face-to-face. Willing and able to travel to distant regional campuses.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters in related field w/equiv.-level course work specific to emergency services Five or more years firefighting experience. Two or more years experience teaching in a community college, university, or training center. Two or more years supervisory experience. Ability to offer online programming
Hazwoper, Haz Mat, or Emergency Medical Technician certification.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS
Typical demands of teaching at the university level exist, with the ability to stand for up to 4 hours in a single
class session, the ability to travel and teach at various regional centers in Michigan for weekend format classes, and the ability to manage the physical demands of 12 credits per semester, with the occasional possibility ofoverload and night classes. Additional physical requirements may involve necessary physical strength and dexterity to demonstrate fire fighting or other emergency procedures related to course topics.
