Within a bilateral project with a partner from the chemical industry, both, industrially used catalysts for the ammonia synthesis as well as model catalysts will be investigated concerning their structure-activity-relation. The aim is to get a deeper insight into the active site of the heterogeneously catalyzed ammonia synthesis. Therefore, a broad spectrum of characterization techniques will be applied in combination with steady state and transient kinetic experiments.

A close collaboration with the industrial partner will be mandatory.

The position is to be filled as soon as possible and is (as a start) for a fixed term until the end of the project (5th of June 2019). For the work, which has to be performed at the „Fritz-Haber-Institut der Max-Planck-Gesellschaft" in Berlin mainly, we are searching for a
Scientific Co-worker

Your tasks:

  • Characterization study of industrially applied ammonia synthesis catalysts and model catalysts for ammonia synthesis
  • Conceptual and content-related planning and development of the characterization study
  • Selection of the suited characterization techniques like e.g. XRD, Moessbauer spectroscopy, electron microscopy, etc.
  • Scientific support of steady state and transient kinetic investigation (TPR, TPO, and TPD) of the ammonia synthesis catalysts
  • Information and communication within the project
  • Reports to the scientific leader of the Catalytic Technology group in Mülheim an der Ruhr
  • Literature review

Your requirements:

  • PhD degree in natural science or engineering with focus on chemistry or chemical technology
  • Experience in the characterization of heterogeneous catalysts
  • Preferentially, relevant professional experience in the field of chemistry
  • Experience in the field of ammonia synthesis is advantageous
  • Preferentially, experience in steady state and transient kinetic experiments and their simulation
  • Readiness for frequent business travels, especially to the Ruhr-area to Mülheim
  • Self-confident manner when dealing with co-workers, customers, and partners
  • Scientific mode of expression while speaking and writing in English and, preferentially, in German

We are looking for a self-motivated personality with independent, target-oriented, and systematic operation. A high degree of self-initiative, resilience, creativity, and flexibility, as well as collaborative skills are prerequisites.

General:
The position will be remunerated according to the labor agreement for public service (TVöD).
