Position purpose
A Lecturer is expected to make contributions to the teaching effort of Monash University Malaysia and to carry out activities to maintain and develop her/his scholarly, research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession or discipline.

Key result areas and responsibility

The key result areas of Research, Teaching and Service are the basis for the primary duties and responsibilities of the role. A workload will be agreed annually with the Head of School in the Performance Development Plan process. Other duties may be required from time to time as directed by the Head of School.


  • Conduct independent research in the Neuroscience and/or Molecular Biology discipline / field.
  • Contribute to enhancing the University’s international reputation through research publications of appropriate quantity and quality.
  • Contribute to obtaining external research grants and other income-generating programs and collaborative partnerships.
  • Contribute to enhancing the quality and quantity of multiple-disciplinary research at the University in an area related or complementary to existing research priorities.
  • Supervise research projects and postgraduate research students.
  • Contribute to maintaining a collegial working atmosphere and stimulating research environment within the school and BRIMS.
  • Undertake administrative functions associated with research activities.


  • Participate in the delivery of research led educational programs as required by the Director of BRIMS.


  • Share in academic service responsibilities, including contributing to outcomes of the discipline and/or school meetings and/or internal campus committees.
  • Foster engagement with the profession, industry, professional bodies and general community.
  • Contribute to the development of collaborative linkages with Malaysian and regional agencies, institutions and industry.
Key selection criteria Essential 1. PhD or equivalent in the area of Neuroscience and/or Molecular Biology or a closely related discipline. 2. A research agenda and a developing record of scholarly research and publications in the relevant discipline. 3. Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching in a relevant field at tertiary level. 4. Demonstrated evidence of good oral and written communication skills. 5. Good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work with students and staff from a diverse range of backgrounds. Desirable 1. Evidence of successfully attracting funding for research activities. 2. Demonstrated evidence of the use of technology and innovation to enhance teaching and research.

  • Monash Open Day and Graduation Ceremonies.
  • Campus enrolment and induction sessions as the School’s representative.
  • Campus, School and Discipline functions that may take place after normal office hours.
