Job Description:

Ryerson University is known for innovative programs built on the

More than 95 undergraduate and graduate programs are distinguished by a professionally focused curriculum and strong emphasis on excellence in teaching, research and creative activities. Ryerson is also a leader in adult learning, with the largest university-based continuing education school in Canada.

Ecology/Evolutionary Biology
Tenure-Track Position

The Department of Chemistry and Biology is in a phase of dynamic growth, both at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Ryerson offers an M.A.Sc. and a PhD in Environmental Applied Science and Management, and an M.Sc. in Molecular Science. New faculty members will have the opportunity to supervise students in these graduate programs.

The Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in Ecology/Evolutionary Biology, at the Assistant Professor level, subject to funding availability. The new faculty member will have a PhD, post-doctoral experience, and an outstanding research record in Evolutionary Biology, Population Genetics, or Ecology. Expertise in Computational Biology is an asset.

The successful applicant will complement a Department with strengths in Environmental Biology, Microbial Ecology, and Molecular Biology. Model research organisms in the Department currently include invertebrate animals, algae, plants (Brassica, corn, beans), eukaryotic animal cell lines, prokaryotes, and viruses. New faculty members are expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and research, establish strong, independent, externally funded research programs, and contribute to the growing teams of researchers in the Department. The successful candidate will be expected to teach at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and contribute to graduate programs.

This position falls under the Ryerson Faculty Association http://www.ryerson.ca/~rfa jurisdiction. Interested candidates should prepare their application packages with a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching interests and philosophy, research proposal, and up to three recent publications. Research proposals should conform to the guidelines for the “free form” portion of form 101 for the NSERC Discovery Program (see http://www.nserc-crsng.gc.ca/OnlineServices-ServicesEnLigne/Forms-Formulaires_eng.asp for details). Candidates should not include form 100 or Part I of form 101 with their submissions; selected candidates may be requested to submit a budget at a later date. Applications can be submitted to: Darrick Heyd, Chair, Department of Chemistry and Biology, Ryerson University, 350 Victoria Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, M5B 2K3. E-mail (.pdf attachments preferred): cabchair@ryerson.ca. Applicants should arrange to have three letters of reference submitted directly to the Department Chair at the e-mail or post address above. For e-mail submissions, signed, scanned .pdf letters sent from the referee’s official university or business e-mail address are acceptable. The deadline for submission is December 1, 2009. Although applications will be accepted until the position is filled, only those received by the deadline will be guaranteed full consideration.

Ryerson University has an employment equity program and encourages applications from all qualified individuals, including Aboriginal peoples, persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities and women.
