The Department of Earth Sciences at Indiana University-Purdue University, Indianapolis (IUPUI), is seeking a Senior Earth Scientist for the position of Department Chairperson.
The candidate will lead research and academic programs in Earth Sciences, as well as have opportunities to expand the Department and implement a newly-proposed interdisciplinary doctoral program in Applied Earth Sciences.
IUPUI is Indiana's urban research and academic campus and a center for Indiana’s Life and Health Sciences Initiative.
The Department of Earth Sciences, with a current Faculty of 12, offers programs of study leading to B.A., B.S. and M.S. degrees in Geology and participates in the offering of an interdisciplinary B.S. degree program in Environmental Sciences. The Department also has in an advanced approval stage a newly proposed Ph.D. degree program in Applied Earth Sciences. Areas of current research interests of the Faculty include: Hydro- and Environmental Geochemistry, Hydrology, Remote Sensing, Paleoclimatology, Geochronology and Historical Geology.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. degree and significant research accomplishments, funding record and teaching experience, appropriate to an appointment as Full professor.
Candidates with research expertise in any area of Earth Sciences are encouraged to apply, though preference will be given to candidates with research interests in Hydrology, Low-temperature Geochemistry or Earth-Atmosphere Interactions, with a broad interest in applications to human health.
The successful candidate must have a demonstrated ability to effectively lead academic programs in Earth and Environmental Sciences and interact well with diverse constituencies, including students, Staff and Faculty. The successful candidate must also have a strong commitment to quality research and teaching.
