The School of Science seeks an outstanding individual with the vision, scientific standing and leadership qualities required to chair the Department of Biology.
We desire candidates with records of excellence in directing active and nationally-recognized research programs, as well as demonstrated commitment to academic leadership, high-quality teaching and the ability to work across academic units.
Candidates are expected to develop exciting, dynamic and strategic visions of the Department's future, compatible with existing strengths and opportunities.
Each candidate should be eligible for appointment as a Full Professor and generous start-up will be provided.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
The Department is expected to expand significantly in the next five years and is currently home to 18 tenure-track Faculty Members and 5 Lecturers, with diverse research programs and strengths, including Regenerative and Developmental Biology, Plant Biology, Genetics and Molecular Biology. Biology Faculty engage in many research and teaching collaborations with colleagues at the adjacent Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Education and Engineering & Technology. The Department of Biology plays a critical role in the education of Health and Life Science majors from across the campus and provides B.A., B.S. and Honors Program options for over 500 majors. A productive Graduate Program awards M.S. and Ph.D. degrees. The Department occupies modern space on the attractive urban IUPUI campus, located in downtown Indianapolis.
IUPUI has a student population in excess of 30,000 and attracts more external research funding than any other campus in the state of Indiana. IUPUI is the dedicated health and life sciences campus within the Indiana University system.
The initial appointment will be July 1, 2010.
