POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES
This position is at the Associate Professor or Professor rank as well as serving as the Departmental Chair. The Chairperson is expected to provide the leadership necessary to develop and expand the Department, such as implementing new academic programs and recruitment to the departmental majors. The Chair's duties entail fostering an environment that promotes excellence in faculty teaching, significant extramurally-funded research, and service to the profession and the community, as well as managing and/or supervising the majority of the administrative tasks in the department. It is expected that the successful candidate will participate fully in the life of the Department, College, and University, including teaching, committee work, obtaining grants, publishing in refereed professional journals, and mentoring junior faculty.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Ph.D. with a specialization in Environmental Science or Environmental Geography and an emphasis on Geographic Information Science applications and research required. The successful candidate will have an established record of nationally-recognized scholarship in these areas, and will have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching that merits appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor. Substantial administrative experience, as well as experience in the development and management of interdisciplinary academic and research programs, particularly those related to environmental issues, preferred.
