|
|
Duties and Responsibilities: The AgCenter Biotechnology Laboratory (ABL) at the LSU AgCenter, is seeking a highly motivated applicant with training and experience in the areas of Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or Biochemistry.
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
(1) designing and cloning genes; (2) transformation of bacteria and algae Chlamydomonas and analysis of transformants, including PCR, RT-PCR and Western blots; (3) developing and executing new procedural routines and methods for the analysis of proteins and other components in transgenic organisms; (4) general laboratory maintenance, including equipment and ordering supplies; and, (5) managing the activities of Laboratory Student Workers.
Knowledge of plant transformation is desirable.
The successful candidate will be expected to perform experiments carefully, with minimal supervision; keep accurate lab records; and, organize and clean the lab area.
Good written and communication skills and the ability to work productively in a team-based research environment are required.
• Use in-depth knowledge of Molecular Biology for developing gene expression strategies in Chlamydomonas and bacteria.
• Use established transformation protocols, to produce stable transformants of Chlamydomonas and express genes of interest.
• Use in-depth knowledge of Molecular Biology for developing and improving Chlamydomonas transformation protocols.
• Stay up-to-date and exchange important information about new developments, that may be used to improve the outcome of the research project.
Job Knowledge and Skills:
• Extensive knowledge of Molecular Biology methodologies
• Experience in cloning, gene design and construction
• Experience in transformation of microorganisms and, preferably, algae or plants
• Experience in protoplast isolation and culture
• Experience in performing biochemical bioassays
• Experience in media preparation, initiation of cultures and maintenance of cultures
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot cloning and transformation protocols and methodologies
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Good interpersonal skills
• Strong analytical and reasoning abilities
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Willingness and capacity to learn and acquire relevant new skill sets
Qualification Requirements: Master's of Science degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology or a related field, with at least two years of experience in a relevant field. Candidates with Bachelor's degrees in the above fields, with suitable practical experience, will be considered.
