Since its founding in 1913 as the Texas State School of Mines and Metallurgy, the College of Engineering at The University of Texas at El Paso has emerged to become a national leader in graduating Hispanic engineers with the real-world experience and academic foundation to change the face of engineering.

Student research is key to the College of Engineering experience and our highly-trained graduates are heavily recruited by the industry’s leading companies.

The college is consistently ranked in the top 5 schools in the continental U.S. in awarding bachelor degrees to Hispanics and was recently named the number 1 graduate engineering school for Hispanics in the country*.

Dr. Theresa Maldonado, Dean of the College of Engineering, leads more than 120 faculty and staff in 7 academic departments and over 15 state-of-the-art laboratories and research centers. Academic departments include Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial, Manufacturing & Systems Engineering, Engineering Education and Leadership, Mechanical Engineering and Metallurgical, Materials and Biomedical Engineering.

Changing the face of engineering in a rapidly changing and dynamic world is a challenging opportunity. The Dean has the unique responsibility of defining priorities and facilitating the resources to actualize the College’s strategies.
