Departmental Overview

Within the Lawrence Hall of Science, the Center for STEM Pathways and Teen Research Programs delivers high-quality, hands-on research opportunities to youth in the Bay Area. We seek talented, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic STEM educators to mentor youth in STEM career pathways.

Responsibilities

Share your excitement for STEM learning with the next generation! For over 50 years, The Lawrence has been providing fun and engaging science learning experiences. Now you can be part of our team as a Teen Research Program Residential Advisor and

  • Inspire teens with curiosity, excitement, and passion for science learning.
  • Demystify the college experience.
  • Mentor teens on their unique STEM pathway.


This position is an ideal opportunity for an undergraduate student. As a Residential Advisor, you will facilitate fun, engaging, and meaningful weekday evening and Sunday social/ learning activities for teens. It is a great opportunity for growth, and you'll gain valuable experience in teaching and mentoring. In this role you will:

  • Manage a social learning and dorm overnight environment for participants' well-being and safety.
  • Thoroughly understand the dorm and campus building safety and security and implement emergency procedures as needed.
  • Develop an understanding of, and the ability to facilitate extracurricular evening and Sunday programming for teens in a fun, engaging, and meaningful way.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor for teens in grades 7-12 and inspire them to find their pathway in STEM and higher education.
  • Lead teens around campus in an energetic, appropriate, and fun way.
  • Be responsible for extracurricular activities materials management, including set-up, clean-up, and storage.
  • Adhere to all of the policies and procedures of UC Berkeley and The Lawrence.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

  • Responsible, organized, and healthy work ethic capable of working independently and collaboratively with an educational team.
  • Strong customer service and verbal communication skills.
  • Experienced and excited to share college experiences with teens grades 7-12.
  • Demonstrated creative teaching methods in informal or formal learning environments.
  • Reliable, punctual, and available to work for the required dates and times.
  • Able to lift up to 25 pounds (carts are available) and traverse uneven grounds.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Past or current experience as an RA, residential camp counselor, or trip leader.
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in science, education, youth development, or related field.
  • A good sense of humor, flexibility, and ability to think quickly and adapt.


Salary & Benefits

  • This is a 100% Limited Appointment for three months - 5/6/2024 through 8/2/2024
  • Non-exempt and paid bi-weekly.
  • Multiple positions are available.
  • This is not a visa opportunity.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.

The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $23.90 - $31.80 hourly
