Qualifications

The School of Mining and Geosciences (hereinafter – the SMG) is seeking outstanding researcher with an earned PhD degree in Geological Sciences, a proven research track record and teaching experience commensurate with appointment rank. Candidates with fracture experience and/or carbonate experience are particularly urged to apply to support an industry consortia-funded research project.

At the moment the School of Mining and Geosciences urgently looking for a good candidate to fill the vacant position of Postdoctoral Scholar in Geological Sciences.

The fields of research are broadly defined across the range of geological sciences related to exploration and exploitation of petroleum, uranium, and energy minerals as well as to utilization of sedimentary basins for carbon storage, energy storage, and geothermal resources. The overall research theme is a “Sedimentary Models for Energy Transition.

The SMG seek ambitious candidates who are able independently to plan and conduct research, acquire, analyze, and integrate a range of various data, and are motivated to develop novel concepts and solutions. In addition to academic background, relevant industry experience and ability to attract future industry partners is an advantage. Willingness and ability to travel and conduct field research are essential. Selected candidates are expected to utilize a range of state of the art tools available at NU, actively participate in research team meetings and activities, and to publish research results at the international level (i.e. Q1 journals).

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

(1) Teaching undergraduate and/or graduate level courses, such as structural geology, geodynamics, geophysics, hydrogeology, and/or field geology,

(2) Establishing world-class research projects in partnership with the local industry and international partners

Travel budget for field work and research is generous. The employment contract is a minimum 1 year. Working language is English. Familiarity with Kazakhstan sedimentary basins, and/or government geological data storages and sample repositories is a strong advantage.

Workload is distributed between teaching, research and service activities.

Additional information

The appointment is a minimum 1-year renewable contract subject to annual performance reviews. An attractive remuneration package for internationally hired includes:
