Job Description

Stevens Institute of Technology is looking for experienced adjunct faculty to develop BIA 660: Web Mining, a graduate-level course in the fully online, cohort-based Master of Science (M.S.) in Data Science program.

About the Program

The online Master of Science (M.S.) in Data Science is a cohort-based program that prepares students for careers in fintech, business intelligence and analytics, academia, and database management, as well as government positions requiring strong skills in data analysis. The program provides the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required for dealing with the contemporary collection, exploration, analysis, and modeling of data along with the related challenges pertaining to inference and prediction. Emphasis is put on the mathematical foundations underpinning state-of-the-art methodologies: probability theory, statistical modeling, numerical methods, optimization, and Markov decision processes for statistical learning.

Course Description (BIA 660: Web Mining): In this course, students will learn through hands-on experience how to extract data from the web and analyze web-scale data using distributed computing. Students will learn different analytical and machine learning methods that are widely used across the range of internet companies, from start-ups to online giants like Amazon or Google. At the end of the course, students will apply these methods to answer real scientific questions or to create a useful web application.

Duties

The Adjunct Course Developer will work with a learning designer to create a high-quality, engaging online course composed of both synchronous and asynchronous elements. The incumbent will be required to create a course outline; source relevant course materials; design assignments and assessments; create presentation materials; record asynchronous lecture content; and produce a course guide that can be used by future instructors of the course.

 Time Commitment

The course development process will take place over a period of approximately 20 weeks. Course Developers must devote a minimum of 10 hours of time each week, including 1-2 hours of collaborative work and 8-9 hours of independent work.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s (required) or Ph.D. (preferred) in Data Science, Data Analytics, or related field.

  • Previous teaching experience in the subject area is preferred.

  • Experience teaching in a synchronous online environment is preferred.

  • Course development or authoring experience is strongly preferred.
