Applications are invited from a tenured associate or established assistant professor in the area of Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Human Language Technologies (NLP/HCI/IR). Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree or its equivalent. We encourage applications from all ambitious, innovative individuals, who have demonstrated excellence in research and are becoming leaders in their fields while engaging in high-quality teaching and mentoring of diverse students. New faculty will have ample opportunities to join the many university initiatives, including the Data Science Institute (, Cybersecurity Initiative (, and those supported by the Delaware Biotechnology Institute (, Center for Bioinformatics & Computational Biology (, Institute for Financial Services Analytics (, Army Combat Capabilities Development Command C5ISR Center at Aberdeen Proving Ground (, and Health Sciences at the STAR campus ( The almost six-decade old Department is vibrant and growing, currently with 24 tenure-track, 6 teaching, and 5 research faculty members, about 130 graduate students, and 532 undergraduate students. The Department has received significant external funding, including grants from NSF, NIH, DOE, Air Force, Army, Navy, foundations, and industries.

The 7th oldest institution of higher education in this country, the University of Delaware (with 18,000+ undergraduate and 3,000+ full-time graduate students) today ranks among the nation’s top 100 universities in federal R&D support for science and engineering, and among the top 50 schools of engineering nationwide. The 194,000-square-foot Harker Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Laboratory includes shared laboratories for nanofabrication and advanced materials characterization and greatly expands opportunities for interdisciplinary research and education, and the 272-acre STAR (Science, Technology and Advanced Research) campus offers even more opportunities for research, academic, and commercial development.
