The Department of Mathematics at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, anticipates the appointment of three non-tenure-track visiting assistant professors, effective August 2024. These academic-year (10-month) positions are for three years without further reappointment and are intended for new or recent PhDs with outstanding potential in research and excellent teaching.

The expected teaching load is one course per semester. Strong preference will be given to researchers who can work closely with one or more of our faculty members, and applicants are encouraged to specify with whom they would like to work. The Department of Mathematics is located on UB’s North Campus in suburban Amherst, an area that combines outstanding public schools and services with a low cost of living. Downtown Buffalo, with its eclectic neighborhoods, the Lake Erie waterfront, and vast cultural resources, is 15 minutes away, and Niagara Falls is also just 20 minutes away. UB has about 20,000 undergraduates, 10,000 graduate students, and 1600 full-time faculty. Our 30 tenure-track mathematics faculty and 70 doctoral students pursue research in algebra, analysis, applied mathematics, and geometry/topology.
