The Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics (APAM) at Columbia University’s Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science in New York City invites applications for one tenured or tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor, associate professor or full professor level starting in January 2019 in the core area of medical physics.

This successful candidate will be a part of the Columbia University Magnetic Resonance Research Initiative and also serve as the co-Director of the Medical Physics Program in the Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics, taking the overall responsibility for further developing research and educational activities of this program.

The research initiative component of this position will address cross-disciplinary research objectives within Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging physics and engineering. The candidate is expected to contribute to the MR Research located at the Zuckerman Mind Brain Behavior Institute (ZMBBI) of Columbia University and collaborate with investigators of the Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC). The appointee will have an appointment with APAM faculty and be a member of ZMBBI.

As the co-director of the Medical Physics Program, the candidate will be expected to contribute to the enhancement of the existing medical physics M.S. program and the establishment of a new graduate medical physics Ph.D. program and research track. This will complement the strong clinical track already in place. Candidates will also teach two classes per year in the Medical Physics program of APAM.

Candidates must have a Ph.D., or equivalent doctoral degree, by the starting date of the appointment. Applicants at the Assistant Professor and Associate Professors without tenure must have the potential to do pioneering research and to teach effectively. Applicants at the tenured level (Associate or Full Professor) must have a demonstrated record of outstanding research accomplishments and excellent teaching credentials. The successful candidate is expected to establish multidisciplinary research collaborations with other research-related departments at Columbia University.
