University of Arizona’s (UA) Global Office and the Department of Environmental Science (ENVS) have entered into an agreement with Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University (NWAFU) in Yangling, China to develop and offer a microcampus B.S. degree program in Environmental Science at NWAFU beginning September 1, 2020.

This UA Global microcampus program will be delivered by UA faculty "on the ground" at NWAFU in Yangling. The program includes 60 units of coursework to be delivered by UA Faculty (in English), providing the core Environmental Science curriculum. The remaining ca. 105 units (prerequisites, general education classes, and elective courses) will be offered by NWAFU faculty. The program will lead to a joint UA-NWAFU degree, including a B.S. in Environmental Science from UA.

Delivery of this program at NWAFU will ultimately require the hiring of at least three UA career track professors based there beginning in August 2021.

As one of the top universities in China, NWAFU is well equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms for teaching and research. It is located in Yangling, a beautiful town of 200,000 people, located 50 miles west of (and connected by high speed train to) the provincial capital city Xi’an, the oldest prefecture capital in China, and home to 12 million people.

We are currently recruiting for the Director and Founding Faculty Member of the NWAFU Microcampus B.S. program in Environmental Science in Yangling, China.

Rank: Open Rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full) Career-Track (non-tenure-eligible) 1.0 FTE
Salary: Depending on rank and experience.
Stipend includes one round trip per year to U.S.
Start Date: September 2020 at UA, relocating to NWAFU in August 2021.

This UA faculty member will serve as Director and Professor of Practice for the NWAFU B.S. Environmental Science Program.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Direct the initiation of the B.S. ENVS microcampus program on the NWAFU campus.
  • Collaborate with UA and NWAFU faculty to develop a program that leverages existing strengths on both campuses.
  • Teach ca. 18 units of ENVS coursework to NWAFU-based undergraduate students per year.
  • Assist the UA Department of Environmental Science in hiring the remaining NWAFU-based team of microcampus faculty.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Environmental Science or related field.
  • Prior experience in STEM instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the design, development, and teaching of quality courses at the college/university level.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, engage, and motivate students.
  • Competency for communication in Mandarin language.
