The University of North Texas (UNT) is a Carnegie R1 research university and a federally designated Hispanic-Serving Institution and Minority-Serving Institution, with a diverse population of over 40,000 students. UNT is located in Denton, a cultural hot spot on the northern edge of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country. The UNT Chemistry Department serves this diverse population of students through both undergraduate degrees (B.S., B.A.) and advanced degrees (M.S. and Ph.D.). Over 4000 undergraduates enroll in our large General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry lab and lecture courses each year. Our graduate program, currently with over 100 students, is focused on training the next generation of scientists in research. Our research-active faculty members pursue research in diverse areas ranging from materials chemistry to medicinal chemistry, with 80% of them receiving external financial support for their research through grants and contracts. Fulfilling our educational and research missions requires dedication to excellence and a strong sense of community among our outstanding staff and faculty members.
