Professor of Practice in Computer Science (several positions)
The fixed-term positions for five years are open at the department of Computer Science (cs.aalto.fi). As the foremost CS educator in Finland, the department is home to the majority of the best Finnish students as well as high volume of high-achieving international students entering the MSc and PhD programs. In total, the department hosts over 40 professors with diverse interests, forming a fertile environment for cross-disciplinary collaborations. On a larger scale, as a technology-friendly, yet small country, Finland offers ample opportunities for low-overhead collaboration with industrial and government partners as well.
The Aalto University Professor of Practice positions provide respected professionals with an opportunity to develop further existing practices and open new areas of teaching, professional and industrial collaboration and research at Aalto University.
We are looking for Professors of Practice to complement our strong research in the broad definition of Computer Science. The selected candidates are expected to establish independent research in the field of Computer Science, for example in following areas:
- Software Engineering
- Software Systems
- Human Computer Interaction
- Systems Security
- Web Applications and Technologies
- Data Science
The applicants are expected to hold a doctoral degree in computer science or in a related discipline. Excellent research record, evidenced by publications in relevant top venues, is expected. Suitable background and enthusiasm for teaching computer science courses at bachelor’s and master’s level are essential. In addition, we value ability for and interest in engaging in research collaboration with industry. A Professor of Practice is expected to perform world‐class research, to teach, supervise and otherwise advance both graduate and undergraduate education, to be an active member of the international scientific community, and to exhibit academic leadership.
The salary for the positions follow the salary scale in use at Aalto University, but applicants may also provide salary requirements.
