The Paleoclimate Dynamics Lab in the Department of Geology at the University at Buffalo (UB) is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to join an NSF-funded project to explore patterns and processes of rapid Arctic warming events by combining paleoclimate proxies and models. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be based at the University at Buffalo, but will collaborate closely with grant partners at Northern Arizona University.

Job duties and responsibilities include:
  • Generate and interpret, using traditional frameworks and proxy system models, high-resolution lipid biomarker and compound-specific stable isotope records from lakes around the Arctic Ocean seaboard.
  • Along with the rest of the project team, improve understanding of the mechanisms behind Arctic climate responses to rapid warming.
 
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. degree in earth sciences, (paleo)climate science, geochemistry, atmospheric sciences, or a related field at the time of appointment
  • Leadership in scientific peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience, as demonstrated by presentations and/or publications, generating and interpreting lipid biomarker and/or stable isotope paleoclimate proxy records
  • Experience with, or at minimum interest in learning how to use, proxy system models
  • Experience with, or interest in learning, scientific computing (e.g., R, Matlab, Python, etc.)
