Postdoctoral Associate
Postdoctoral Associate
Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume) Doctoral Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Physics, Chemistry or closely related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications: Previous experience with ultrafast optics.
Brief Description of Duties: The Allison and Liu labs at Stony Brook University seek a postdoctoral research associate interested in quantum materials research and developing next-generation frequency comb technology. The successful applicant will participate in ongoing experiments in the Allison and Liu labs, including studies of quantum material systems with photoemission momentum microscopy and near-field optical microscopy.
The post doc's main task will be to develop and incorporate ultra-broadband frequency comb light sources to study quantum materials at extreme conditions (low temperature, high magnetic field etc.). The work will involve high-power fiber lasers, waveguide and free-space nonlinear optics, high-harmonic generation, laser stabilization, and few-cycle pulses to produce ul-trafast light sources from the far-IR/THz to the soft x-ray with 100 MHz pulse repetition rates. Thus, the postdoc will receive training in a wide variety of skills at the cutting edge of ultrafast optics, putting them in an excellent position to pioneer new techniques in their independent career. The activities will take place in a newly renovated 2,500-square-foot laser laboratory at Stony Brook.
- Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, conduct research experiments in the field of Ultrafast Optics and Spectroscopy.
- Collect and analyze data, including periodical/literature search and utilizing specialized skills in related fields to analyze the collected data.
- Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentations.
- Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies as needed.
- Other duties, which may include attending Scientific Conferences and Meetings.
Special Notes: The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
