The Department of Geology at the University of Kansas seeks applications for a 9-month, tenure-track, faculty position in the broad field of Applied Geophysics. We seek an outstanding colleague who uses geophysical data, models, and/or develops new algorithms to understand geologic processes that affect society, and interfaces with existing departmental strengths, such as hydrogeology, tectonics, sedimentary geology, paleontology, and glaciology. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally funded research program, direct graduate students, and participate in teaching geophysics at graduate and undergraduate levels. The successful candidate must have appropriate work authorization by time of appointment.
Teaching/Advising (40%): Teach geology and geophysics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.
Research (40%): Develop and conduct an active research program, publishing in appropriate journals. Seek and obtain external funding for the research program. Supervise undergraduate, M.S., and Ph.D. students’ research.
Service (20%): Provide service to the department, university, profession, and society.

Faculty members are expected to meet satisfactory standards of performance in all three areas of responsibility and to carry out those responsibilities in accordance with the Faculty Code of Rights, Responsibilities, and Conduct.
- Ph.D. in Geophysics, Geology, or a related discipline is expected by the start date of the appointment.
- Demonstrated ability to establish an active externally funded research program.
- Evidence of effective communication skills.
- Research interests complementary to those of faculty of the University of Kansas Department of Geology.
