The proposed PhD project will focus on the synthesis of nanocatalysts based on three-dimensional carbon structures, on the understanding of the type(s) of active site(s) present on these nanomaterials, as well as, on elucidating the electrochemical reaction mechanisms for the conversion of methane to products on the synthesized carbon-based electrocatalysts
The current PhD position is suitable for a highly qualified individual willing to develop research and innovation in the field of energy. Specifically, the workplan of this position is dedicated to the advancement of electrochemical systems for energy interconversion by an emerging field of electrocatalysis, based on carbon nanostructures.
The present position aims at creating the conditions for the successful candidate to obtain a high-level doctoral thesis, and to lead the individual to be highly qualified in research and scientific writing. Being successful, these results would lead the student to adequately achieve the next step in the professional career regardless of the academic industry.
This opportunity is also linked to CINE – Center for Innovation in New Energies, through Research Program 3 – Methane to Products (M2P), coordinated by Principal Investigator Fabio Coral Fonseca.
- Requirements to fill position:
Potential candidates motivated with masters or first degree or (equivalent) with a First or Second Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering or related disciplines are invited to apply. Previous experiences in the synthesis and characterization of nanopolymers, carbon nanostructures and electrochemistry are highly valued, although they are not required. Candidates should also demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, which will be essential for collaborations within ISCED, disseminating the results through periodical publications and participation in international conferences. Candidates who complete undergraduate studies by July 2019 are also very welcome to apply for this vacancy.
This PhD scholarship is funded by Shell through the FUNDEP Foundation. The scholarship will cover a standard maintenance grant of R $ 41,717.52 per year (R $ 3,476.46 per month).
