Junior and Assistant Specialist - Neuroscience - Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute


The Helen Wills Neuroscience Institute (HWNI) at the University of California, Berkeley, invites applications for two Junior/Assistant Specialist positions.

One position will organize and maintain the ECoG database, including compiling data from/for Dr. Knight's Lab, UCSF Neurological Surgery Department, Johns Hopkins, Children's Hospital, California Pacific Medical Center and Stanford locations. This position will also provide hands-on support and analysis for scalp EEG and ECoG projects, which will include administering EEGs, data pre-processing, event extraction, time-frequency analysis, event related potential analysis, phase- locking analysis and network coherence analysis. The position will oversee and create 3D and 2D visual reconstructions of patients' data and medical scans to aid in the development of Lab Researchers' articles and presentations.

The second position will organize and maintain the Knight Lab intracranial (iEEG) database recorded from neurosurgical patients undergoing evaluation for surgical treatment of medically uncontrolled seizures. This includes data from UCSF, Stanford, Children's Hospital, California Pacific Medical Center, UC Irvine, Albany Medical Center, UC Irvine and the University of Oslo. In parallel to this iEEG work, which includes administering EEGs, this position will assume responsibility for our large neurological patient cohort (stroke and tumor resection). This includes meeting with neurologists to select patients and adding precise neuroanatomical lesion location for each patient to our database; also working on our various CPHS protocols.

Basic Qualifications (required at the time of application):

Bachelor degree or equivalent international degree, or enrolled in Bachelor's or equivalent international degree program.

Additional Qualifications (required by start date):

Bachelor's degree or equivalent international degree.

Minimum of 6 months' experience of research.

Preferred Qualifications:

Background in Neuroscience.

Minimum of 6 months' experience of Electroencephalography (EEG) and/or Electrocorticography (ECoG) research.

Experience administering EEGs.

Acclimated with patient MRIs including an understanding of MRI neuroanatomy.

Proficiency with ECoG and SEEG (intracranial) electrodes.

Appointment:
This position reports to Dr. Robert T. Knight. The anticipated start date is April 20, 2020. This position is full-time (100%). The initial appointment will be for one year, with a possibility of renewal. Extension of the appointment is subject to performance and availability of funds.

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
