Summary:

Voted one of the top Forensic Science degree programs in 2021, UVU's Forensic Science Program promotes and teaches competence, integrity, professional practices and ethical skills needed of the forensic expert in today's criminal justice system. Our program is the only Forensic Science bachelor's degree within the state of Utah and is designed to provide students with skills and experience to prepare students for successful careers within forensic science. UVU has the largest student enrollment among public universities in the state, approximately 40,000 students, and is one of a growing number of institutions in the nation offering an integrated dual-mission model that combines the rigor and richness of a first-rate teaching university with the openness and vocational programs of a community college.

Under direction from the Department Chairperson, the individual shall perform the following duties: Instructs students enrolled in the Forensic Science Investigation Program via in-class, on-line and hybrid methods of delivery. Specific courses to be taught may include: CSI Techniques, Crime Scene Analysis and Reconstruction, Fingerprint Processing and Examinations, Footwear/Tire Mark Evidence and Examinations, Bloodstain Pattern Analysis, Forensic Photography, 3D Laser Scanning, Digital Evidence and any other related discipline. Develops and writes grant requests related to Forensic Science; accepts assignments and serves on department, school and university committees; attends faculty and other meetings as assigned; performs other appropriate university and professional service; supports the department's goals and works collaboratively with colleagues in the program, department, school and university. Maintains currency in academic field(s) of expertise. Engages in professional development activities and assists in curriculum and program development. Fosters and engages in collegiate relations with the community. Involves undergraduate students in research. Represents the department and the school at professional meetings and conferences. Provides an open, student-centered, discrimination free classroom environment. Experience as a certified practitioner or generalist in the area of Forensic Science is desired. Required Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a masters degree in forensic
science or a closely related area and at least 5 years of field experience. Evidence of effective and inclusive college-level teaching.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience of multiple areas from any of the
  • following disciplines: Crime Scene Investigations, Reconstruction, Fingerprint
  • Processing/Examination, Forensic Photography, Footwear and Tire Mark Processing/Examination, 3D Laser Scanning and/or Bloodstain Pattern Analysis.
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques for teaching subject matter
  • Knowledge of and consistent use of engaged teaching techniques
  • Knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation
  • Knowledge of teaching issues, challenges, and completion strategies
  • Knowledge of evaluation of instruction, curriculum development, program development and evaluation
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication, class management at the college level, teaching using traditional, in-class methods, teaching online, and use of
  • current teaching techniques
  • Skill in using current technology
  • Effective human relations skills and communication techniques
  • Ability to develop courses in the area of Forensic Science/Investigations and
  • assist in program development
  • Ability to apply effectively general principles to specific conditions
  • Ability to follow written and oral procedures and instructions
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators from
  • diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Ability and willingness to teach in face-to-face, hybrid, and on-line modalities

Must be able to deliver instruction to students for multiple hours at a time.
