Lake Superior State University invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position. This position will begin in August 2021.

The successful candidate will contribute their academic and professional expertise to innovate and build fire science into a flagship program that is so highly desired by students we are forced to hire more faculty. Use collaboration and creativity to provide and expand high quality, meaningful academic opportunities for students.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.) Expand the fire science program through high quality teaching and steadfast, strategic recruitment of students.
2.) Minimum of 12 contract hours of teaching responsibilities per semester.
3.) Provide a minimum of 5 hours devoted to office hours for the purpose of student advising and support.
4.) Participation in professional and scholarly activities, including but not limited to research and dissemination of knowledge through publication, community, or faculty presentations.
5.) Course and program assessment.
6.) University/community service.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Masters Degree in related field with equivalent level course work specific to emergency services, willingness to earn a Masters Degree in a related field may be allowed
Desire and innovative/entrepreneurial energy to continually improve program quality and enrollment
Evidence of experience in providing effective teaching at the undergraduate level
Ability to teach broad range of fire service course
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated evidence of ability to teach from multiple formats including online, blended, and face-to-face
Willing and able to travel to distant regional campuses

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. in related field w/equiv.-level course work specific to emergency services
Ten or more years firefighting experience
Two or more years experience teaching in a community college, university, or training center
Two or more years of supervisory experience
Ability to offer online programming
Fire Instructor 1 Certification
Fire Instructor 2 Certification or the ability to earn this certification
Hazwoper or Haz Mat Technician certification
