We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s diverse student body as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry beginning in the 2022-2023 academic year, subject to funding availability.

The candidate should be expert in the broad fields of Polymer Science/Organic Chemistry.

The successful candidate is expected to have extensive research and training background in the broad field of Polymer Science/Organic Chemistry, which may include but is not limited to the specialized field of polymer chemistry, organic chemistry, polymer characterization/spectroscopy, polymer nanocomposite, polymer synthesis, materials chemistry, etc.

Expected duties for each position include teaching lower and upper level undergraduate and graduate chemistry courses, mentoring students in research, and establishing an active, innovative, and externally funded research program in the areas of Polymer Science/Organic Chemistry. In addition, the successful candidates are expected to participate in the development and delivery of an interdisciplinary Materials Science doctoral program in the near future (expected in fall 2022).

The Department of Chemistry is an American Chemical Society approved program and currently offers B.S. and M.S. degrees. The successful candidate is expected to be an active participant in departmental, college and university activities.
