Shi Lab in the Department of BioEngineering at University of California San Diego is seeking applications for postdoctoral positions from highly skilled and motivated individuals with expertise in one or more of the following areas: biophysics, biology, neuroscience, biomedical optics, and Biomedical Engineering.
Shi Lab is specialized in developing and applying new optical imaging and spectroscopic techniques for solving biomedical problems at subcellular scale in real time in situ. The optical spectroscopic and imaging methods enable direct visualization of the complex molecular events underlying brain function, cancer, and metabolic diseases, thus offering researchers and clinicians powerful tools for disease diagnosis and treatment.

Scholars will work at the cutting-edge of Stimulated Raman Scattering microscopy (SRS) and multiphoton imaging system to solve biomedical problems. Duties of the position include developing new tools and technology to image high-resolution metabolic activities in situ. Experience in structural, in vivo, and cellular biology or computational analysis is preferred. Candidates holding a Ph.D., M.D., or an equivalent level of expertise in life sciences or biomedical research are encouraged to apply. Scholars will conduct biophysical experiments along with SRS imaging and computing tasks while pursing creative solutions to neuroscience, cancer, or metabolic diseases. Other duties include mathematical data analysis, preparing manuscripts for publication, and contributing to the grant-writing experience. The earliest available starting date is September 1, 2019 and will be initially funded for one year with the potential for up to three years. To apply please submit a resume that includes a list of education, publications, and work experience. For additional information please email to Dr. Lingyan Shi, Assistant Professor, Bioengineering Department, UCSD, at L2shi@eng.ucsd.edu
