Yale University – Assistant Professor in Systems Biology Institute
The Systems Biology Institute (SBI) at Yale University in partnership with the Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB), seeks applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor faculty position in molecular, cellular, or developmental biology, or microbiology, or the intersection of these fields. Research interests and methodological approaches can span the field of systems biology and include (but are not limited to) integrative (experimental and computational/theoretical) approaches to the analysis and/or engineering of biological systems on multiple spatial and temporal scales; and approaches that combine multiple experimental modalities, including bulk and single cell multi-OMICs, and/or novel imaging techniques, coupled with sophisticated analytical methods. Of particular interest will be research programs that seek to develop a mechanistic understanding of molecular, cellular or developmental systems in an interdisciplinary fashion and might apply mathematics- or physics-inspired tools and perspectives. However, applications from all areas of systems biology, understood in the broadest sense of the field, will be given careful consideration. Yale Systems Biology Institute (Systems Biology Institute-Yale West Campus) is dedicated to addressing a broad range of questions of modern systems biology. It combines advanced experimental approaches with development of state-of-the-art analytical, computational, and theoretical tools. The areas of interest vary from fundamental understanding of biological systems and networks to highly translational applications aimed at the development of novel therapeutic interventions and prognostic tests. The institute is located in a cluster of 6 mostly biology-oriented institutes, creating a large, highly collaborative research community. It is supported by a range of advanced core facilities enabling diverse experimental and analytic approaches. The institute is comprised of faculty from multiple Yale departments and schools and collaborates with various programs across Yale and beyond.
The MCDB department (https://mcdb.yale.edu) shares a common interest in exploring the mechanisms underlying the coordinated behaviors of molecules, cells and tissues to form living organisms. MCDB labs combine genetic, biochemical, molecular, cell biological, computational and theoretical approaches to investigate fundamental biological processes across a range of organisms, from viruses and microbes to plants, worms, flies, fish and mammals.
The selected candidate must have met the requirements for a Ph.D. or equivalent degree at time of hire, as well as a proven record of outstanding research that demonstrates originality and self-motivation. Excellent communication skills for research and teaching are necessary. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a dynamic research group, educate undergraduate and graduate students in the area of systems, molecular, cellular and developmental biology, and be an interactive member of the faculty.
