The Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems at the Aalto University School of Chemical Engineering is looking for a
Postdoctoral Researcher in the area of Bio-based materials
The position is part of a European wide consortium called FuturoLEAF (https://futuroleaf.com/
). It is focussed on the use of nanocellulose in the next generation carbon-capturing algal cell factories
. The role of the postdoctoral researcher would be to produce and modify suitable nanocellulose grades and build architectures thereof for cell immobilization and encapsulation.
The Postdoctoral position is open in the research group Materials Chemistry of Cellulose
headed by Prof. Eero Kontturi. It is an interdisciplinary group with a wide international collaboration network. The laboratories are situated on the main campus of Aalto University in Otaniemi within the Department of Bioproducts and Biosystems (https://www.aalto.fi/en/department-of-bioproducts-and-biosystems
The group offers a multidisciplinary research environment
at the crossroads of lignocellulosics and biomaterials together with excellent, up-to-date infrastructure. It is part of the FinnCERES Bioeconomy ecosystem
which is based on a joint Flagship funding for Aalto University and Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT) by Academy of Finland (https://www.finnceres.fi/
). This offers further chances for national and international collaboration.
As a successful applicant, you should be highly motivated in experimental science and have a background in chemistry, chemical engineering, biosciences, physics or a closely related field. Solid skills in physical chemistry, synthetics
are an additional advantage. The position is particularly suitable for a highly motivated young researcher with eyes on possible academic career. High profile publishing is a priority.
The candidate should also have:
Recently obtained PhD (max 5 years) in a suitable field
Good written and oral communication skills in English
Experience in carrying out independent research and working in a team environment
What we offer
The position is funded initially for one year with a possible extension to a further year, (1+1 years). The starting date is 1st September 2022 but an earlier start can be negotiated if deemed relevant.
The monthly gross salary for a Postdoctoral Researcher is 3560-4040 €/month depending on experience. The contract includes occupational health care and Finland has a comprehensive social security system.
