Position Overview

The Molecular Biosciences Department at the University of Kansas invites qualified scholars and professionals to submit applications, which will be reviewed by the faculty and placed in a pool to be considered for part-time and/or full-time, temporary and/or regular teaching positions as needed. These are non-tenure-track members of the faculty whose primary role is instructional. Applications will be accepted throughout the year and appointments made when extra instructors are required to fill vacancies or in emergency situations. The successful applicant must have appropriate authorization to work in the U.S. before employment begins. Starting dates will vary as needs arise. Fall positions will begin in August and end in December: Spring positions will begin in January and end in May. Specific dates will be set and comply with academic calendar. The positions will be located in Lawrence.

Job Description

55% – Execute educational activities and evaluations. Teach one or more undergraduate courses per semester. Teach appropriate curricula and grade by criteria outlined on syllabus. Write and administer quizzes and exams; grade exams, student papers, etc. Provide instruction throughout the semester.

30% – Educational preparation. Prepare for and attend all class meetings. In case of absence, the lecturer must make arrangements for a substitute to teach class. Classes should not be cancelled.

10% – Student interaction and educational support. The lecturer should be available for established office hours and/or reasonable appointments, if a student cannot meet during scheduled office hours.

5% – Adhere to departmental, college and university policies.

Required Qualifications

Evaluation of the following requirements will be made through (1) descriptions of work experience and educational experiences in letter of application, (2) record of accomplishments and productivity addressed in resume, and (3) information provided from professional references:
Master’s degree within the biology field with cellular or molecular expertise, OR
Ph.D. candidate within the biology field with cellular or molecular expertise who has passed the comprehensive oral examination.
Teaching experience in a university/college setting, as evidenced by letter of application and teaching history.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. within the biology field with cellular or molecular expertise.
