There is an immediate opening of post-doctoral scholar positions in the sustainable and biomedical polymers lab (Chung group https://chy979797.wixsite.com/chunggroup).
The first project aims to design, synthesize, and characterize multi-functional biomedical adhesives through the fundamental understanding of structure-property relationships in bottlebrush polymers. The second project is synthesis of biomass lignin-based sustainable polymers. The most important part of the project is organic synthesis of new monomers and following polymerization to prepare sophisticated and well-defined polymers.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, polymer science or a related field, and demonstrated experience in organic and/or polymer chemistry (monomer synthesis and polymerization). The candidate must be able to conduct multi-step organic synthesis with strong organic chemistry background. Familiarity with polymer physics, polymer characterization (SEC, NMR, FTIR, UV-Vis, tensile testing, rheology, etc.) is desirable. Independence, creativity, and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.
The Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) - Florida State University (FSU) College of Engineering is the joint engineering school for FAMU and FSU. The unique collaboration between two universities provides great benefits from both universities. The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering has excellent research facilities for polymers/materials/chemistry research. The Chung’s research lab is located in the main campus of FSU. Also, the Chung’s group provides the maximum support to facilitate postdoc’s research in terms of publication and knowledge gaining. The Chung’s group research has a highly interdisciplinary nature as a unique polymer synthesis group in engineering department.
