The laboratory of Dr. Ana Alonso in the BioDiscovery Institute at the University of North Texas is seeking for a highly motivated Research Scientist. The applicant will study the function of candidate genes involved in lipid storage and stability in pennycress seeds, a promising alternative source of aviation fuel. More specifically, the candidate will perform 13C-labeling in pennycress seeds, monitor the temporal labeling of central metabolism and lipids by LC-MS/MS, and build a mathematical model of the dynamic labeling. This is part of a new interdisciplinary project funded by the US Department of Energy for 3 years. This work is part of a bigger project involving three labs at two different institutions. Therefore, good social skills and the ability to work within a team work are highly desired. In the meantime, if you have questions or want further information, feel free to contact me (Anapaula.Alonso@unt.edu).
Education Required: Doctorate in plant science, biochemistry, biology, or related field.
Prior Experience Required: At least five years of experience in the field of plant biochemistry and/or plant central metabolism with publications demonstrating the active contribution of the candidate to this field of study. Prior experience with at least two of the following approaches: isotopic labeling, lipidomics, sterile tissue culture, High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Liquid Chromatography tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), and mathematical modeling is required.
