The Department of Earth and Climate Sciences at Tufts University invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor in Atmospheric Science, beginning September 1st 2024. The successful candidate will: 1) teach three courses per year (a required course in Atmospheric Science for majors and two new elective courses relevant to the Earth Science and Climate Science curriculums); and 2) perform high‑quality, externally‑funded research in their area of expertise.
The Department of Earth and Climate Sciences at Tufts is an undergraduate-only program with six tenure-stream Professors, a full-time lecturer, and small community of post docs. We are in the process of building two parallel and linked majors in Earth Science and Climate Science and adding expertise in Atmospheric Science will expand our faculty’s size and research interests. The faculty member can take advantage of departmental opportunities and resources to facilitate student participation in research on and off campus, including undergraduate theses and extended academic trips over winter and spring breaks. Tufts University is in the Boston area and is near a diverse array of environments, research facilities, and organizations that are conducive to field trips and research collaborations.
Qualifications
Candidates should hold a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Science, Earth Science, or related fields and demonstrate potential for impactful research. Candidates are expected to be inspiring undergraduate educators and to provide opportunities for active undergraduate participation in research. Candidates with computational, theoretical, or field approaches are encouraged to apply.
