The Department of Biology at West Virginia University (https://biology.wvu.edu/) invites applications for Teaching Assistant Professor beginning January or August 2022.  This is a 9-month, full-time, non-tenure track position with full benefits and the opportunity for promotion, though promotion is not required for continued career stability. Teaching Assistant Professor appointments have renewable terms of up to three years, with no limit on the number of terms. Teaching faculty are expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching, and ongoing engagement in assessment-based advancement of curriculum and instruction. The successful candidate will be expected to teach foundational courses and advanced undergraduate courses in their area of specialization. While the ability to teach courses in quantitative biology (e.g., statistics for biologists) is desired, all areas of biological specialization will be considered. The teaching assignment is four courses each semester, or equivalent.  Common equivalents consist of significant commitments in support of student development (e.g., advising and recruitment) or in support of instruction. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to curriculum development, by developing courses that complement our current areas of focus (Cellular and Molecular Biology, Genomics, Neuroscience, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Quantitative Biology). The successful candidate will also contribute to advising and recruitment; advising during the summer may be expected, with additional compensation.

A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Biology or a closely related field is required at time of employment. In addition, we seek evidence of, or potential for, excellence in teaching undergraduates; in developing new courses; in developing, implementing and assessing innovative recruitment and advising initiatives; as well as excellent written and oral communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.
