We are looking for a postdoctoral research fellow who has a background in microbiology and interest/experience in engineering mechanics. He or she will be involved in an interdisciplinary project for investigation of bacterial cell interactions with microtextured substrates in an aquatic environment. The objective is to characterize the colonization of cells and growth of biofilms on surfaces which are both highly deformable and resistant to biofouling. The position requires a deep understanding of experimental design and experience cultivating and quantifying microbial populations. The post-doctoral scholar will be co-advised by Dr. Andrew Dickerson (dickersonlab.com) and Dr. Charissa de Bekker (debekkerlab.com).
- PhD in Biology; Mechanical, Biomedical, or Bio-Engineering; Applied Mathematics, Physics, or related area.
- General expertise in microbiology. Experience in molecular microbiology is even more desirable.
- Familiarity with fluid and solid mechanics is considered highly advantageous, but not required.
- While additional fluid mechanics experience is favored, successful candidates should at least show a willingness to work across disciplines and mechanics as necessary.
The contract period is 2 years and can be extended.
