Part-time Lecturer for Geospatial Humanities (non-tenure track) 

The Department of Classical Studies at Tufts University is seeking applicants for a part-time Lectureship to teach an undergraduate/graduate level Introduction to Geospatial Humanities course fall 2023. A sample syllabus for how the course could be taught is available upon request. 

Introduction to Geospatial Humanities introduces students to the foundation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) theory, methods, and technology for applications in the humanities in past and present settings. Topics include GIS data creation and data structures, geodesy, spatial analysis, and cartographic visualization. Assignments concentrate on applying concepts covered in lectures and exercises and include a final project that applies GIS to each student’s field of interest. 

 

Qualifications

Candidates should have an MA or PhD in GIS, geography, or related field. Candidates must show evidence of successful teaching in GIS or closely related areas. Priority will be given to candidates that focus on humanities applications or historical geography. The successful candidate will have the ability to work with traditionally underrepresented students, including students of color, and advance in their teaching Tufts University’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
